The Crack Review of Meg's Hill
Daft moniker aside, JS&TH have had a fantastic year and the feather in their jazz/pop cap is the imminent release of their debut album.
Listening to Jenny Stevens & The Hiccups’ debut album, Meg’s Hill, brings to mind thoughts of the recent release from US alt country rockers, Rilo Kiley, except in this case you need to replace the Fleetwood Mac leanings with a light dusting of jazz. Extremely accessible, the band have poppy tunes by the skipful as evinced by these tunes which showcase Stevens’ clear as a bell voice and canny way with a melody. The South Shields-based band have had a great year kicking off in January with the legendary video director, Geoff Wonfor, producing the promotional video for their first single, Me Syndrome. Since then they’ve played a rapturously received gig at the Carling Academy and also supported Squeeze’s, Chris Difford. Their album is launched this month and they’re celebrating with a gig at The Sage Gateshead on October 22.

Jen supported Squeeze legend, Chris Difford, at the Amphitheatre in South Shields on 7 June 2007.
On an extremely cold night on the sea front, Jen and the band warmed everyone up with their cheery and infectious songs. Chris was kind enough to say this about the performance:
“I really enjoyed watching Jenny and her band the other night, they gave a
powerful and creative support slot. Not easy when we were all playing
outside in the freezing cold on a beach! Really nice people, I wish them
well and hope to see them again soon.”
